AIA 7% Lifestyle Booster Discount
From 14 August 2026, AIA introduced a new 7% Lifestyle Booster Discount for selected new eligible cover.
The initiative provides a premium discount to eligible applicants who meet certain health and lifestyle criteria.
Who may qualify?
According to the eligibility criteria, applicants generally need to:
Have a BMI between 18.5 and 26.99
Meet the relevant non-smoker definition for at least 12 months
Be aged 16 or over
Apply for eligible new cover
Complete full underwriting
An important point is the definition of a non-smoker.
It is broader than simply not smoking cigarettes. The definition can also include e-cigarettes, vaping and nicotine replacement products such as nicotine gum or patches.
Therefore, someone who has stopped smoking cigarettes but continues using certain nicotine products should not automatically assume they qualify.
Which types of cover are eligible?
The discount does not apply to every AIA insurance product.
Based on the announced eligibility criteria, it applies to selected new:
AIA Living – Personal
Life Cover
Family Protection Benefit
AIA Living – Business
Life Cover
The premium option must also be either Rate for Age or Level-10.
Does 7% make a meaningful difference?
It can.
For example, if an eligible premium were $200 per month, a 7% difference would equal approximately $14 per month or $168 per year.
Over the longer term, the cumulative difference may become meaningful.
However, insurance should not be chosen simply because a discount is available.
The appropriate sum insured, policy benefits, exclusions, premium structure and long-term affordability remain more important considerations.
A growing connection between health and insurance
The Lifestyle Booster Discount also highlights a broader trend: insurers are increasingly linking health and wellbeing behaviours with insurance pricing and benefits.
For consumers, this can create additional incentives to maintain healthier lifestyles while potentially reducing the cost of selected insurance cover.
Ultimately, however, good insurance planning should begin with one question:
What protection do you actually need?
Once that has been established, pricing and available discounts can form part of the comparison.
